PMO Security Services will present Private Detective/Private Investigator Continuing Education Training/Seminars on a quarterly basis and on request by individuals or groups.
Presentations by PMO Security Services are intended to include skills, techniques or information which is potentially useful in a security business environment, and not just be a ‘rubber stamp' for the licensee. Consequently, each session will have training objectives.
One session is currently scheduled from 8:00am-5:00pm at the Hilton Garden Inn, 520 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66101 on the following date:
- Saturday, 18 February 2012. Training objective: Review of core private investigator skills.
- Review Private Detective Laws & Admin Review Procedures - 1 hour
- Arrest and use of force: legal authority & limitations for private investigators - 1 hour
- Public records & commercial databases: privacy limitations, availability & contents - 3 hours
- Basic surveillance: objectives, planning, limitations, & techniques - 3 hours
Note: Topics and Content will be finalized in early January.
- Each session will meet the continuing education requirements for private detectives licensed in the state of Kansas and private investigators licensed in the state of Missouri.
- This session will qualify as 8 CE hours.
- Cost will be $100 for each attendee.
- Advance reservations by the last Thursday preceding the date are preferred to insure sufficient classroom space and materials.
- Payments may be made in advance or at the door, but all payments must be in cash, check or money order. PMO Security Services is not setup to process credit cards or other forms of electronic payments.
Individual training certificates for attendance will be issued at the end of the training for those who have preregistered. Others will be issued electronically the day following the training.
Private Detective/Private Investigator Continuing Education Sessions Available on Request.
Cost will be determined by content and location of investigation, facility/presentation costs and the number of projected attendees. Flat rates will be quoted on request. Here are the courses currently available or under development:
Missouri Private Investigator Initial Firearm Permit Course.
This course is 16 hours in length. It meets the Missouri requirements for private investigator continuing education and the statutory requirements for the state concealed carry license. It is designed as an entry level course for investigators entering the field. The subject areas of instruction are:
- PreTest & Firearm Safety
- Legal: Civil Liability, Carry of Firearms, Use of Force, and Arrest/Detention.
- Risk Analysis
- Firearms Effectiveness
- Body Armor
- Basic Weapon Retention & Disarming
- Firearms Mechanics: Handling & Firing
- Firearms Qualification Firing
Private Detective/Private Investigator Core Curriculum.
This course is intended to be an entry level training for private detectives/private investigators. It is currently under development; some blocks are available. The training objectives are:
- Knowledge Objective 1: Professional standards, requirements, limitations, restrictions, and procedures
- Knowledge Objective 2: Significant legal limitations on personal privacy or monitoring of individuals.
- Knowledge Objective 3: Limitations on access to public and personal information held by government agencies or businesses.
- Knowledge Objective 4: Basic limitations of arrest, detention or use of force during arrest by a private detective/investigator.
- Knowledge Objective 5: Privileged information, basic evidence handling, and process service requirements in the Ks/Mo courts.
- Knowledge Objective 6: General business practices that apply to private detective/investigator business activity.
Homicide Bombers: Tactical Employment Techniques & Defensive Counterfire.
This course is four hours in length. It has been delivered repeatedly at the Annual Training Convention of IALEFI. It is based in large part on the presenter's experience and upon the published text: "Police Analysis and Planning for Homicide Bombings". The blocks of instruction are:
- Homicide Bombers: Social Characteristics and Profiles
- Homicide Bombers: Tactical Employment Techniques
- Homicide Bombers: Police Management Issues
- Homicide Bombers: Training for Use of Deadly Force
Investigative Analysis of Weapon of Mass Destruction Threats.
This course is 1 hours in length and can be delivered alone, included with or substituted for blocks in the Homicide Bomber course. It is based in part upon the presenter's experience and the textbook "Police Analysis and Planning for Chemical, Biological and Radiological Attacks". It can be expanded on request.
Active Shooters.
This course is two hours in length. It is a review of selected Active shooter incidents, the current police response, and anticipated private investigator actions.

Private Detective Legislation/Legal and Regulatory Update.
This course is 1 hour in length and will be updated periodically. Currently, it looks at federal legislative and regulatory activity in 2010-2011 time frame, recent federal administrative or regulatory actions, and 2011 Legislation or Administrative/Regulatory activity in Kansas and Missouri.
Kansas Private Detective Firearm Permit Initial and Annual Renewal courses are provided by PMO Security Services, and could be used for continuing education by Missouri licensees and by Kansas licensees who choose not to apply for a Kansas Private Detective firearm permit.
